Influence of Temperature and Pressure on Carbon Black Size Distribution during Allothermal Cracking of Methane

چکیده
Allothermal cracking of methane is a suitable and eco-friendly way to simultaneously produce hydrogen and carbon black. The economic viability of the process relies on the ability to produce carbon black having well-defined characteristics, particularly concerning the particle size. A model for the study of the carbon particle size distribution during thermal cracking of methane has been developed. The model takes into account: heat transfer by conduction, convection, particle and gas radiation, homogeneous and heterogeneous reactions of methane dissociation, nucleation and growth of solid carbon particle formed. The model alleges nanoparticles are in thermal equilibrium and does not impact the flow. A parametric study is made on operating pressure and temperature. As a result, the increase of the pressure and temperature increases the yield of thermal methane cracking. Moreover results show a particle size distribution becoming narrower with increasing temperature and/or pressure. In these conditions, the particles population tends to be monodispersed.

متن کاملA New Method to Calculate the Absolute Amount of High-Pressure Adsorption of Supercritical Fluid
In the paper we developed a new method to determine the absolute amount of adsorption. This method relies on the excess adsorption isotherm and the density profile in the pore of one material. To compute the density profile and decrease complex calculation of obtaining the absolute amount of adsorption we introduced Simplified Local-Density (SLD) model. A few of appropriate parameters were ...

In this paper, the effect of adding hydrogen to the composition of methane and air in a micro combustor is investigated by a three-dimensional numerical method. First, the results of the current study in determining the wall temperature of the micro combustion chamber are compared with those obtained from the experimental and numerical results of the previous research. By confirming the numeric...

متن کاملCatalytic and Non-catalytic Conversion of Methane to C2 Hydrocarbons in a Low Temperature Plasma
The direct conversion of methane to C2 hydrocarbons, in a quartz tube reactor enforced by a DC corona discharge, was investigated at atmospheric pressure. The process was carried out in the presence of metal oxide catalysts of Mn/W/SiO2, Mn/W/SiO2 (tetraethyl orthosilicate, TEOS), and Mn/W/CNT (supported on carbon nanotubes). The total yield to C2 hydrocarbons in the presence of metal oxide cat...
